SFUSD Student Nutrition and Physical Activity Committee
- COMMITTEE STRUCTURE AND NORMS
- Selection of San Francisco Unified School District Student Nutrition and Physical Activity Committee Members (“SNPAC”)
- Eligibility and Process for Joining
- Any SFUSD parent, student, staff member, healthcare or nutrition professional, or other concerned citizen with a healthcare, food service, nutrition, physical activity or education background who meet the following criteria may be eligible to apply for membership on the Committee:
- Has participated actively in at least one of the Subcommittees (School Food, Physical Activity, Publicity, Wellness, etc.) for one year, prior to being considered for membership in the SNPAC
- Has been absent without good cause from no more than one Subcommittee meeting per academic year, OR has been absent without good cause from no more than one SFUSD SNPAC meeting per academic year
- Student members may waive (a) and (b) if they have demonstrated interest in school nutrition at their school site
- Is recommended by a member in good standing of the SNPAC
- Students may recommend only other students
- New members must be approved by a majority of all current members.
- Members should notify the chairs by end of the school year of their intention to serve on the following year by the last Committee meeting in May.
- Committee vacancies will be posted on the District website and announced at SNPAC Subcommittee meetings. A nomination and vote will occur at the first meeting of the Committee for new members.
- Standing members include: SFUSD SNPAC Chair(s), Representative of Student Nutrition Services (SNS), representative of School Health Programs Department, student representative(s), parent representative(s), and school site administrator(s).
- Membership is limited to a maximum of 15 and minimum of 7.
- Quorum. A quorum for meetings of the SNPAC Committee shall consist of 50% of the membership of the SNPAC Committee plus one member.
- Membership criteria only apply to the SFUSD SNPAC. Anyone who shares a desire to improve nutrition in the SFUSD can join a subcommittee.
- SFUSD SNPAC Committee and subcommittee meetings are open to the public. The Committee and subcommittees in its consideration of items shall hear public testimony. Members of the public may not vote.
- The preliminary agenda for next meeting shall be established at the end of each meeting. The agenda shall include any unfinished business to be carried over to the next meeting. In addition, agenda items may be added by the co-chairs up until 72 hours before the meeting. Members wishing to add an agenda item must send a written request to the co-chairs at least a week before the meeting date.
- The minutes of a previous meeting can be approved by the members present at the start of the meeting regardless of whether there is a quorum. Members may ask that minutes be amended at any time, even if they have already been approved at a previous meeting.
- SFUSD SNPAC COMMITTEE NORMS/CODE OF CONDUCT
- All SNPAC Committee members shall strive to work cooperatively and respectfully with other Committee members and with SNS, for the benefit of SFUSD students.
- Each SNPAC Committee member agrees to encourage the free expression of opinions and open debate in a respectful manner by all Committee members and the public at Committee meetings.
- SNPAC Co-chairs are authorized to speak publicly on behalf of the SNPAC Committee. SNPAC Committee members who plan to speak on behalf of the Committee shall make factually accurate statements that reflect the position of the Committee.
- When expressing an individual or minority opinion that is not the position of the SNPAC Committee, members shall make it clear that their opinion is not the SNPAC Committee position.
- Concerns raised by Committee Members related to Wellness Policy and SNS shall be placed on the agenda in a timely manner for a subcommittee and district meeting by the Committee Chairs. Additions to the agenda must be submitted in writing to the co-chairs at least one week prior to the meeting.
- The SNPAC Norms/Code of Conduct shall also apply to all SNPAC Subcommittee meetings. If a SNPAC member fails to abide by the above mentioned criteria; the Committee will consider the member’s conduct and may vote to censure the member. A majority vote is required to censure.
- If a censured SNPAC member continues to fail to abide by the above mentioned criteria, the Committee will consider the member’s conduct and may vote to dismiss the member. A majority vote is required to dismiss.
